Alan Peglar Memorial Train
Our Chairman, James Baldwin, organised an Alan Peglar Memorial Train from King’s Cross to York on 13 October 2018 in collaboration with the daughter of Alan who, as the first private owner of Flying Scotsman, began the process of ensuring its long-term preservation for the nation. On the northbound journey - behind Flying Scotsman - Alan’s remaining ashes were consigned by his daughter to the locomotive’s firebox as it tackled Stoke Bank, the others having already been scattered at the Ffestiniog Railway in keeping with his final wishes. Travellers, including a number of our Group’s members, enjoyed Pullman-style dining on both outward and return journeys, plus a reception at the Museum to mark the occasion.
